Highly-rated Stuttgart midfielder Yildiray Basturk broke the thumb of his right hand during last Saturday's 14-0 win in a charity game against Winnenden.

The former Turkish international, who scored five goals in the match, expects to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning and will be out of action for a number of days due to the problem.

Subsequently, Basturk will be fitted with a special cast that will allow him to return to regular team training soon. Nevertheless, he is doubtful for Saturday's Bundesliga game against Schalke.

Basturk appeared to be on his way out of Stuttgart last summer, but his proposed transfer to Turkish powerhouse Besiktas eventually collapsed.

The 30-year-old has made four league appearances for the Schwaben so far this term.
