Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart will unveil Zenit St Petersburg forward Pavel Pogrebnyak as their latest signing after the player passes a medical on Sunday.
The Swabians have been
searching for a replacement for Mario Gomez, who joined Bayern Munich for €30
million, and their hunt is at an end.
hit man will reportedly cost the German outfit some €10 million with a four-year
contract on offer, although details have yet to be released.
Stuttgart's sporting director, Horst Heldt, told the press, "Apart from Sunday's medical, everything is clear. We have agreed with the club and the player.''
A note on the Zenit website reads, "The transfer has been approved by the club's head coach (Dick Advocaat)."
signing of Pogrebnyak, however, may not spell the end of the transfer dealings
with the Swabians with speculation also linking Markus Babbel with a move for Standard
Liege’s Milan Jovanovic.
A move for the Serbian
midfielder had hit an impasse with his Belgian club demanding €8 million, but
reports claim that both clubs are now approaching an agreement.
