Borussia Dortmund have revealed that they have secured the signature of Mainz midfielder Markus Feulner on a free transfer next season. The 27-year-old is a free agent at the end of the season and, regardless of whether Mainz achieve promotion, he will move to the Signal Iduna Park to join up with former trainer Juergen Klopp.
Mainz are currently second in the second division and set for automatic promotion but manager Christian Heidel has revealed that they couldn’t match the money on offer at Dortmund or guarantee him Bundesliga football next season.
"We were prepared for this day," said Heidel on the club's website.
"As much as we would have wanted to keep him at Mainz, we had to expect this decision."
Feulner has vowed to give his all for the club between now and the end of the season.
"I am looking forward to the challenge with Borussia Dortmund from the summer, however, until the end of the season my full concentration will be on Mainz 05 and our common goal of promotion," he said.
