Scott Chipperfield Not Signing For Hertha Berlin

The proposed transfer of Australian Scott Chipperfield from FC Basel to Hertha Berlin has collapsed.

The Bundesliga side released a statement on Thursday afternoon to the effect that the advice from the club’s medical staff had led them to cease their interest in signing the 33 year old.

Chipperfield is injured at the moment and, with no firm date available as to when he could start training or play for the ‘Old Lady’, the Berlin club have decided to pull the plug on the move.

The Aussie suffered a foot injury a week ago during a friendly match for his Swiss side Basel.

“I am very disappointed, but despite that it’s still okay for me to back to Basel” he explained in an interview with the Basler Zeitung.

Chipperfield has returned to Switzerland meaning that Hertha are still in the hunt for new recruits in the transfer window- particularly on the left side of their defence.

Manager Dieter Hoeness has “four or five names in mind” with former Bayer Leverkusen player Marko Babic a name at the forefront of the speculation.
