Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that centre-back Andreas Christensen will spend another year at Borussia-Park on loan from Chelsea.
The 19-year-old has been subject to reported interest from the likes of Barcelona and had been linked with a return to Chelsea, who may end up needing a new defender due to John Terry’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Christensen has been a revelation for the German club, earning himself a regular place at the heart of the German side’s defence, but will return to Chelsea at the end of next season.
Eberl said: “Sure, he has developed great and a lot of clubs are interested in him, but he will definitely play for Gladbach next season.”

Christensen is reaping the rewards of regular first team football with his season highlight coming against Werder Bremen as he got onto the scoresheet twice.
He has only played in one game for Chelsea in a 2-1 win against Shrewbury Town but this season’s form in the Bundesliga has earned him four international appearances for Denmark.
The renewal of his loan deal coincides with Antonio Conte joining The Blues in the summer and could cause the club to revisit the Terry situation and offer the captain a new deal.
