Ze Roberto to leave Hamburg in summer

Former Brazil international medio admits that he has no option but to leave HSV when his current contract expires at the end of June

Hamburg midfielder Ze Roberto is set to leave the German club at the end of the season after failing to reach an agreement with them over a long-term deal.

The 36-year-old’s current contract with HSV expires in June this year and although he was keen to remain with them, the club’s reluctance to offer him a two-year deal has resulted in him in making up his mind to leave them in the summer.

"I had a very interesting time with Hamburg - but I'd like to sign a new contract for at least two years," said the Brazilian, according to AFP.

Hamburg’s sporting director Bastian Reinhardt explained: "We would really have liked Ze to wear the Hamburg shirt for another season but he wanted a long-term contract.”

Ze Roberto, who won the Bundesliga four times with Bayern Munich and joined Hamburg in 2009, has been linked with a move to Brazilian club Fluminense as well as MLS side New York Red Bulls.
