Bundesliga outfit Schalke have completed the transfer of Brazilian wing-back Danilo Avelar from Ukrainian side Karpaty Lviv on a loan deal. The 21-year-old has signed a loan contract until the end of the season.

Schalke were in the market for a new left-back because of the disappointing performances of Hans Sarpei and Sergio Escudero, and Magath has now gotten his desired reinforcements at the back.

Avelar joined Karpaty from Rio Claro in the summer of 2010 and has since developed into a key player at the Ukrainian side. He played in all six of Karpaty's Europa League games this season.

The young defender will be wearing the number 23 jersey at his new club. Avelar could make his official debut for Schalke in the upcoming DFB Pokal clash against Nuernberg on Tuesday if all the paperwork goes through in time.
