Veteran German midfielder Fabian Ernst has left Schalke 04 for Turkish capital club Besiktas.
Schalke had initially responded to reports emanating from Istanbul by denying that Ernst was leaving the club, but they have now made an about-face.
"Fabian approached us with the wish of moving to Istanbul. Besiktas' offer was attractive for both the club and the player, so we agreed," explained Schalke's sporting director Andreas Mueller on the Bundesliga's official website.
"The most important thing was that Fabian wanted to transfer. We would have never sold him without his agreement", he added.
The 29-year-old ex-Werder Bremen star has already arrived in Istanbul, and has signed a three-year deal.
