RUMOURS: West Ham plan summer splurge for Henderson and Wijnaldum

Premier League high-flyers West Ham are hoping to confirm their growth by swooping for Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and Newcastle United's Georginio Wijnaldum for a combined £40 million, according to the Brentwood Gazette.

Slavan Bilic's Hammers are still in line for Europa League qualification this season and are aiming to reinforce their squad with several high-profile signings in the summer to compete on all fronts next term.

Reds captain Henderson has been identified as a potential target if Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp can find an adequate replacement in the centre of the park, with a reported £25m bid readied to bring the 25-year-old to Upton Park.

Wijnaldum, meanwhile, has been one of the few bright sparks in Newcastle's season but the midfielder could seek to be moved on should Rafael Benitez's be relegated.

West Ham are poised to pounce with a bid over the £14.5m the Magpies paid to sign the Netherlands international from PSV last summer.
