Osasuna midfielder Masoud Shojaei could be spending more time on the sidelines after it was confirmed that his injured left foot requires surgery for the third time in six months.
According to the chief doctor at his Spanish club, the affected area of the bone has not attached back as expected, which calls for another surgery to correct the problem.
"The player will remain sidelined for a period still to be determined, but the most important thing now is that the bones join together healing themselves properly," Dr. Patxi Cipriain said on the club's official website.
"We still don't know whether this will take four or five months, or even if the player will miss the rest of the season," he added.
Having injured his foot in a Liga match back in April, the Iranian went through surgery that month, before having to go under the knife again in May. However, with the current circumstances requiring yet another surgery, it remains to be seen whether Sojaei will feature again this season.
The third surgery will be carried out at the Hessingpark Clinic in Germany.
