Sven Goran Eriksson could be the next manager of the Iran national team according to reports, with Afshin Ghotbi set to take up an offer with a J-League cub after the Asian Cup.
Ghotbi's contract with Team Meli expires at the end of the tournament, where his country will be looking to end a trophy drought that is over three decades old.
The credibility of the link to Eriksson remains to be seen, though it seems to be in a similar vein to recent speculation Diego Maradona would succeed the aforementioned Ghotbi.
Those rumours continue to swirl, with Eriksson the latest high profile name to pop up in the football-mad country.
Iran Football Federation vice president Mehdi Taj had conceded Eriksson was a name being considered earlier this year.
The Swede has recently taken charge of Mexico and the Cote D'Ivoire and is currently the manager of Championship oufit Leicester City.
