Japan will take on Argentina in a friendly in Tokyo on October 8 in preparation for the 2011 Asian Cup.
The Argentina friendly will follow matches against Paraguay in Yokohoma on September 4 and Guatemala in Osaka on September 7.
With a successor to Takeshi Okada yet to be announced by the Japan Football Association (JFA), the governing body stated a caretaker manager could take the reigns for the high profile match.
Spanish coach Victor Fernandez appears to be the front-runner but the JFA have delayed their decision.
Japan have been drawn in a group alongside Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria at the Asian Cup.
The tournament begins on January 7 and will end on the 29th.
Argentina too are under the direction of a caretaker manager in Sergio Batista.
