Scott Chipperfield Identified As Player Who Made Comments About Socceroo Harry Kewell

Retired defender is mystery source.
Retired Socceroo Scott Chipperfield has been identified as the player at the centre of the Harry Kewell row that is dominating headlines at the moment in Australian football.

High profile commentator and former Australia international Robbie Slater recently claimed a player had told Kewell to "f*** off" at a farewell dinner for the 2010 World Cup and that the player said Kewell was of no value to the Australia national team anymore.

"For someone to have said Harry is of no value to the Australia team, didn't happen," Mandic said on sports radio station SEN.

"Because the player in question, and I'll identify him, it's Scott Chipperfield."

Mandic also said the source of the story was Graham Arnold, former Australia assistant and head coach.

"The source of the story is one Graham Arnold, [former] assistant coach to Australia.

"Scott Chipperfield … is a good bloke, he basically did not say that."

Kewell's manager said neither he nor Slater were present when the comments about Kewell were made by Chipperfield, with Arnold the one perpetuating the story.

He also says there is ammunition for legal action against Slater.
