Following his resignation last week, Luiz Felipe Scolari and his team of coaches said their final goodbyes to Bunyodkor officials today with both parties insisting the relationship had been beneficial.
“We are pleased to have worked together,” Bunyodkor sporting director Muradilla Alimbaev told the club's official website.
“We are sure that Scolari’s work in Uzbekistan will have a big effect very soon. Our players gained some very useful experience and I guess that other Uzbek club coaches learned a lot useful things from Scolari and his team.”
Scolari’s task upon his appointment in June of last year was to lead the mega-rich Uzbek outfit to their first Asian Champions League title. However, after falling at the quarter-final stage to Pohang Steelers last year, they went down 3-0 to Al Hilal in the round-of-16 last month – a defeat that prompted his resignation.
“I liked Uzbekistan and the Uzbek people very much,” said Scolari. “It’s impossible not to miss this wonderful country. I would like to come back to Uzbekistan in my free time to meet these people and to see this country again.”
