Former Austrian international Josef Hickersberger has been appointed as the new coach of Bahrain.
The 62-year-old former Rapid Wien and Austria coach, who has managed a number of Asian clubs in recent years including Al-Ittihad of Qatar and Al Wasl in United Arab Emirates, guided Al Wahda to the UAE League title this past season and succeeds Milan Macala as the nation’s new head coach.
The-afc.com confirmed the Austrian will take charge as of July 1st but the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) are yet to divulge the full details of the agreement.
Bahrain have been drawn in AFC Asian Cup Group C alongside Korea Republic, India and Australia.
