Thai Premier League champions Muangthong United have signed former Bayern Munich teen sensation Berkant Goktan, according to the official AFC website.
The 28-year-old has signed a one-year contact with the club who are hoping to qualify for their first ever Asian Champions League. Goktan becomes the club’s first signing under new coach Rene Desaeyere.
The striker has been out of the game since 2008 when his contract with 1860 Munich was terminated following a positive drugs test.
The Turkish-German forward made his Bayern debut at just 17-years-old, but failed to live up to the hype of his early reputation.
Disappointing loan moves to Borussia Monchengladbach and Arminia Bielefeld followed for the youngster before he finally settled in Turkey in 2001, spending the next three years with Galatasaray.
After nearly 50 games with Aslanlar, Goktan had brief spells with Besiktas and Kaiserslautern before finally finding a permanent home in 2006 when he became a regular with 1860 Munich.
