West Asian Cup: Iran Thrash Qatar, Jordan Down Oman

Iran ended the group stage of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship with a 6-1 thrashing of Qatar to set-up a semi-final clash with Syria on Wednesday while Jordan defeated Oman 3-1.

It was one-way traffic from the start for Ali Daei’s men.

Milad Meydavoudi start the ball rolling after ten minutes and Team Melli were two goals to the good just after the half hour thanks to Ahmad Al Neeme.  

A penalty from defender Hadi Aghili three minutes after the restart made it three and further second half goals from Ehsan Haj Safi, Jalal Rafkhahi and a second from Meydavoudi completed the rout against an understrength Qatar side who had already booked a semi-final spot.  

There Jorge Fosseti’s men will face Jordan who booked their last four spot with a 3-1 win against Oman.  

Two second half goals from Raed Al Nawateer made the difference for the Jordanians.
