Real Madrid Want Antonio Valencia Instead Of Cristiano Ronaldo - Report

Real Madrid are set to turn their attention to Wigan Athletic's Antonio Valencia and try and seal a deal before Manchester United can sign him after being unable to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to move to the Spanish capital, according to a report.

Los Merengues have made signing a new wideman a priority in the summer and the current administration have had scouts watching the Ecuadorian international on a regular basis.

Manchester United have persuaded Ronaldo to stay for at least another season after the forward came close to forcing his way out of Old Trafford.

Despite having the Portuguese star and a host of other wingers, including Nani, the Red Devils are said to have held negotiations with Wigan Athletic about Valencia.

But with no agreement yet in place it is believed that Madrid have made contact and are hoping to attract the 23-year-old back to la Primera in the summer, The People state.

Florentino Perez is the favourite to become the new president at the Bernabeu and he would sanction the move for Valencia as he concentrates on bolstering other areas of the squad.

The former El Nacional winger joined Villarreal in 2005, but made only two appearances in three seasons before joining Recreativo and then Wigan on loan.
