Rakitic explains Ter Stegen celebration

Ivan Rakitic has revealed the reason behind his celebration with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen after scoring the opening goal in Barcelona's 3-1 win away at Granada.

The midfielder scored his fifth goal of the season to break the deadlock and then proceeded to make a point of picking out the 22-year-old as he celebrated with the rest of his team-mates.

"Two weeks ago he told me that it is about time I scored and you can see from the celebration that we are a big family, a united team," he explained after the game.

Further goals from in-form forward pair Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi ensured last weekend's defeat to Malaga was quickly forgotten about and moved the Catalans to within a point of leaders Real Madrid, who play Villarreal on Sunday.

But their afternoon was made more difficult by a suspect pitch at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes, with Rakitic particularly unimpressed with the surface.

He added: "The pitch is in embarassing condition but we worked very well and we are still improving.

"It was important to get points after a complicated match against Malaga. Here it is very difficult, but we have done a great job and we deserved the victory."

Marc Bartra conceded the penalty that allowed Fran Rico to pull a goal back and make it 2-1 on 51 minutes, but the defender was upbeat after the game, preferring instead to focus on the importance of the win.

"The team has done a great job to get the points," he said. "Sometimes you don't have a good day and it's difficult to play at a high level but the important thing was that we won in Manchester and now here."
