Roma midfielder Seydou Keita caused uproar ahead of his side's pre-season friendly against Real Madrid by refusing to shake Pepe's hand and throwing a water bottle at the Portugal international.
The two have endured a troubled relationship ever since Keita's time at Barcelona, when the midfielder accused Pepe of racism after a Spanish Supercup match between Madrid and Barca in 2011.
The 34-year-old had clearly not forgotten about the incident and blanked his nemesis when both teams were shaking hands before kick-off.
Keita then threw a water bottle in Pepe's direction, too, leading to a minor brawl on the pitch involving Sergio Ramos among others.
Meanwhile, Pepe kept his calm following the Malian midfielder's actions and a smile appeared on his face after the projectile narrowly missed him.
Things eventually calmed down after a brief conversation between Xabi Alonso and Keita and Roma would go on to beat Madrid 1-0 in the friendly in Dallas.
