Angel Di Maria has fired a warning to world-record signing Gareth Bale that he is prepared to fight to regain a starting berth at Real Madrid.
The Argentine was preferred to the Welshman by coach Carlo Ancelotti for the 6-1 victory over Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday, with the €100 million star starting on the bench for los Blancos.
And the 25-year-old, who started 22 league games under former boss Jose Mourinho last season, has said that he will not surrender his starting berth without a fight.
"I stayed here in Madrid because I want to keep winning," he told reporters. "When the coach tells me to play I will, and I will sit on the bench if he wants that.
"But I want to earn the starting spot because up until now I was playing regularly."
Di Maria, whose contract with the Spanish giants expires in 2018, has made 142 appearances for the club since arriving in Madrid from Benfica in 2009.
