Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has told Radio Catalunya he hopes Pep Guardiola will stay on as coach of the Catalan giants.
Guardiola's reign at Barcelona has seen the club awash with trophies, and Puyol is keen for his former team-mate to put pen to paper on a new deal in the summer, when his current contract expires.
"It's his decision and we are fine with it. He knows that we want him and that he is the right person to lead this team."
Puyol also said that his time on the sidelines has been the toughest of his illustrious career in football, saying: "The first two or three months were the hardest because the prognosis wasn't clear and we weren't able to find a solution. We did everything, but we failed over and over again. The same thing happened two or three times."
Puyol admitted last week that he had thought about retirement, but the veteran centre-back has now made four appearances in a Barcelona shirt this season.
