Diego thrilled by dream Atletico Madrid debut against Celtic in Europa League

New Atletico Madrid signing Diego has called his debut a 'dream', and thanked the club's fans and fellow players for their welcome.

The controversial playmaker has signed for the Spanish capital city outfit from Wolfsburg on a one-year loan deal, and made his first appearance for his new team in a 2-0 win over Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Brazil international scored one and set up one for fellow attacker Radamel Falcao in a memorable game.

"It was my dream night, wonderful, with a goal included. I will never forget [it]," he told AS.

"I have to thank all the players, coaches and fans of Atletico because they have been so magnificent. It's very important for a player and I am very happy. I hope to thank them all with good performances throughout the season."

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes against the Scottish side, and is feeling physically fit.

"I felt really good. We have many quality players. There are players who have just arrived and are still getting used to each other in this system, there is much room for improvement. I feel very happy with everyone," the midfielder continued.

"Physically, I feel much better than before. I had nearly four months without playing and I'm lacking match practice. I felt very good with the ball at my feet on the pitch and I look forward to continuing," he concluded.

Diego should feature for Atletico against Racing at home this weekend, in a game Gregorio Manzano's team will look to win.
