Barcelona set sights on Valencia's Jordi Alba - report

The Catalans have turned their attention to the 22-year-old as previous transfer target, Sporting Gijon's Jose Angel, appears to be heading for Rome
Barcelona are closely monitoring the situation of Valencia defender Jordi Alba as they look to add a new left-back to their squad ahead of the 2011-12 campaign, El Mundo Deportivo reports.

The Champions League holders are in the market for a new full-back because of the ongoing uncertainty over the future of Maxwell and allegedly see Jordi Alba as the ideal addition to their squad.

Barca had initially set their sights on Sporting Gijon defender Jose Angel, but they failed to agree terms and the player now appears to be on his way to Roma instead, prompting the Camp Nou side to turn their attention elsewhere.

The 22-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2014, but the Mestalla outfit appear ready to cash in on the wing-back if an offer in the region of €5 million were to be received.

The defender, who can also play in midfield, has appeared for Spain at under-21 level.
