Dani Alves suggests Lionel Messi struggles for Argentina because he doesn't have Barcelona team-mates behind him

Camp Nou defender praises the forward but suggests he is a better player at club level thanks to the quality of those around him in Spain
Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves believes Lionel Messi struggles to replicate his club form for Argentina because he does not have the support of the Camp Nou players.

The Copa America host nation struggled to beat Bolivia in their Group A opener on Saturday, settling for a disappointing 1-1 draw after coming back from behind thanks to Sergio Aguero.

Messi was unable to shine for his national team with suggestions that he is just a club player once again coming to the fore and Alves has offered an explanation to those theories.

"In Argentina they want Messi to be what he is for Barcelona, but he does not have the same team-mates," Alves told the press, as reported by Sport.es.

"Not even the best player in the world can help win a game by himself."

Brazil kick off their Copa campaign against Venezuela on Sunday evening.
