Real Madrid's Hamit Altintop set to undergo surgery on back problem

The Turkey international has sustained a back injury and will be sidelined as he faces an operation to relieve the condition
Real Madrid will possibly have to make do without the services of Hamit Altintop when the 2011-12 campaign kicks off, as the Turkey international is set to undergo surgery on a back problem.

A statement on the club's official website reads that Altintop will go under the knife on Monday June 27 in Germany to fix the problem.

The injury was diagnosed after the player experienced some pain and conservative treatment failed to have a positive effect. Real Madrid's medical team recommended surgery to take place during the player's summer break.

It's not yet known how long the former Schalke star will be sidelined because of the injury.

The 28-year-old only completed a move to Madrid from Bayern Munich on a Bosman last month, with the versatile midfielder signing a deal until 2015 with the Spanish giants.
