Valenciennes announce Philippe Montanier will leave to take over at Real Sociedad

The 46-year-old former goalkeeper is set to take over the San Sebastian outfit following a disappointing season at Estadio Anoeta that led to the sacking of Martin Lasarte
Valenciennes have announced that coach Philippe Montanier is to leave the French club to take over at Spanish side Real Sociedad.

The side from San Sebastian parted company with Martin Lasarte after the last day of the season, and have been actively looking for a new man to lead the club forward in 2011/12.

The news was released on the French club's official website, with president Francis Decourriere confirming that the Basque side have paid the €500,000 compensation fee to buy out the last year of the 46-year-old's contract.

The Ligue 1 club also revelaed that a replacement would be named in the next coming days.

Montanier coached the club from 2009, after joining from Boulogne, and led the side from the Stade Nungesser to a 12th placed finish in 2010/11.

Real Sociedad meanwhile finished in 15th place in La Liga, and were embroiled in a relegation battle until the last day of the Spanish season.
