Ruud van Nistelrooy has joined Malaga on a one-year deal after passing his medical, the Spanish club confirmed on Thursday.

The 34-year-old left Hamburg following a spell in which he never really settled in the Bundesliga after joining them from Madrid in January 2010.

After becoming a free agent, Malaga confirmed he would be unveiled to the press and fans at La Rosaleda later today.

An extract of a statement on the club's official website read: "The Dutch international striker will play for the Blanquiazul during the 2011-12 season."

Malaga offered no further details as to his contract structure or pay, but Spanish media have claimed he may be offered the chance to play on for a second season depending on how he performs.

Van Nistelrooy expressed his delight with the announcement when speaking to Dutch reporters, saying: "I find it exciting to be here. This is a very good project."

Previously in his career, the striker represented PSV, Manchester United and Real Madrid as well as Hamburg.
