Sevilla's Ivan Rakitic to miss rest of season with broken foot

The Croatia international has picked up a foot injury and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to the knock
Primera Division side Sevilla have received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of their important 1-0 away win over Almeria at the weekend, with midfielder Ivan Rakitic certain to miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

The Croatian international was forced to leave the pitch after only 30 minutes of play in Andalucia and underwent further examination on Monday to clarify the extent of the knock. A scan has revealed that the former Schalke player has a broken metatarsal in his left foot, Marca reports.

It's not yet known how long the 23-year-old will be out of action, but it seems unlikely that he will feature before the commencement of pre-season.

Rakitic joined Sevilla from Schalke in the January transfer window and has since become an important first team member at the Spanish side. He currently sits 210th in the Castrol EDGE Rankings.
