Barcelona star Lionel Messi says there is no personal rivalry between him and Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.
Both players have scored 24 goals in La Liga so far this season and on Wednesday evening Messi and Ronaldo went head-to-head again, this time in the international friendly between Argentina and Portugal.
Messi netted a late penalty to give the South Americans a 2-1 victory, but the 23-year-old played down suggestions of an individual triumph.
"This wasn't a game between Barcelona and Real Madrid or between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo," he said, according to Uefa.com.
"We don't compete with each other to see who is the better player, we do so for the benefit of our teams.
"I asked to play the 90 minutes tonight [Wednesday] and as I normally take penalties I did so again," added Messi.
"I was asked to play more or less as I do at Barcelona, as a sort of a false number 9, slightly behind the attack."
