Villarreal Keen On Benfica Striker Oscar Cardozo - Report

Highly rated attacker Oscar Cardozo could be on his way out of Portuguese titleholders Benfica as Primera Division side Villarreal have shown an interest in signing the prolific hitman, according to a report in A Bola.

The Vila-Real side are in the market for a new attacker because of the possible departure of Giuseppe Rossi, who is continually being linked with a move back to Italy.

Villarreal coach Juan Garrido supposedly sees the 27-year-old Cardozo as the perfect replacement in case Rossi indeed opts to leave the Europa League hopefuls.

Cardozo started his professional career with 3 de Febrero and also wore the jerseys of Club Nacional and Newell's Old Boys before joining Benfica in the summer of 2007. The striker played a major role in Benfica's league success last term and his good performances haven't gone unnoticed elsewhere.

However, it remains to be seen whether Villarreal have the financial resources to lure Cardozo away from his current club. The striker's current contract runs until the summer of 2014, meaning that he won't be available on the cheap.
