Levante coach Luis Garcia Plaza rejoiced after his side defeat Atletico Madrid, overcoming what he branded as “one of the best sides in Spain”.
Goals in either half from Nano and Felipe Caicedo condemned Los Colchoneros to their third consecutive defeat in all competitions, and gave the promoted side breathing space from the relegation zone.
Speaking to the media after what was a vital result for his team, Plaza said of the performance of his players: “We produced a complete performance. The team played very well.
“We have had many chances to get more goals, but we eventually did. We have also kept a clean sheet. We have discovered that with these players, whenever they face a challenge and fail, we know that we raise our game for the next match. I have to take my hat off to the attitude of the team.”
Levante’s win edged them four points clear of the relegation zone, while Atleti lost further ground on the team fighting for Champions League positions at the other end of the table.
