Speaking to Portuguese station SIC Noticias, 'El Diego' argued that before the 'Special One' moved to Spain "the club was a free-for-all", and praised the former Chelsea and Inter man for imposing order and discipline on the squad.
"Now they play how Mourinho wants them to, and how the fans want them to," said Maradona, who met Mourinho a week ago and is currently on a tour of Europe.
"I watch all Madrid's games, and I like the improvisation that [Mourinho] demonstrates. How he controls the players, how he carries the group with him."
Diego was speaking as part of the station's special on Mourinho, honouring the two time Champions League winner. The coach himself spoke on the programme, as did ex-charges from Chelsea and Porto.
