Real Sociedad midfielder Jeffrey Sarpong is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a dislocated shoulder during a training-ground clash.
The Dutchman suffered the blow in this morning’s session, and the club confirmed that he will undergo a series of additional tests in order to assess the extent of the injury. It is thought that the 22-year-old will be out of action for at least a month.
Sarpong suffered a similar injury three years ago during his time with previous club Ajax, and had to undergo an operation to fully repair the problem.
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a moderately successful start to his career with the San Sebastian side, scoring twice in his four appearances so far this season, but the setback will deprive coach Martin Lasarte of his services against the likes of Racing, Hercules and Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks.
Sarpong joined Ajax’s youth academy at the age of seven, and graduated into the first team in 2006.
