Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was satisfied with the performance of his players as they secured a 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.
In an action-packed encounter, Seydou Keita, Xavi and Sergio Busquets did the damage for the Blaugrana, who edged back to second in the league table behind leaders Valencia.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Guardiola admitted that he was delighted to leave the Basque country with the points, saying: “I am very satisfied to win at a place where it is always difficult to come. In terms of Real Madrid, the classification is purely anecdotal, we are only concentrating on points and that’s what we try to do.”
David Villa and Fernando Amorebieta were also dismissed in a hot-tempered match, but Guardiola remained coy on the referee’s performance.
He added: “The incidents were very fast and I would like to see them again on TV.
“The public pays for their ticket and they are entitled to whistle or clap for their money. The Spanish football supporters have knowledge of football, and at San Mames that is what the fans can be described as.”
