Atletico Madrid Defender Tomas Ujfalusi Banned For Two Matches For Challenge On Barcelona's Lionel Messi

Czech defender Tomas Ujfalusi must sit out Atletico Madrid's next two games after being suspended for his late challenge on Lionel Messi.
Atletico Madrid defender Tomas Ujfalusi has been suspended for two games following his late tackle on Barcelona star Lionel Messi in Sunday's defeat to the champions at the Vicente Calderon.

The Czech stopper's injury time challenge on the 23-year-old Argentinian resulted in a straight red card and left Messi facing two weeks on the sidelines.

There had been suggestions in the Spanish press that the 32-year-old could face up to 12 games on the sidelines but Competition Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) has since found that the incident amounted to dangerous play and not violent play, meaning he will serve a two-game ban.

Ujfalusi, who has since apologised to Messi via text message from team-mate Kun Aguero's phone, will miss los Colchoneros forthcoming games against Valencia and Zaragoza.
