Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has admitted the Blaugrana were almost perfect in the scintillating win over Panathinaikos in their Champions League opener on Tuesday evening.
The Spanish champions won 5-1 with the Argentina international scoring twice but Messi also missed a penalty. Speaking to Uefa.com, the 23-year-old said that he was frustrated at not scoring from the spot but expressed his delight at having helped his side to a win.
"I am a bit angry at myself for missing that penalty but the important thing was that the team won a big match," Messi said. "We played excellently, we continually created chances throughout the game, and to be truthful I know that I could have scored a couple more in total.
"We got over going 1-0 down really quickly and from the moment that it was 1-1, I really think that we played almost perfect football. The best was just before half-time when I played wall-passes with Xavi and then Pedro – it turned into a beautiful piece of play."
