Barcelona Will Feel Uncomfortable At El Sardinero - Racing Coach Miguel Portugal

Racing Santander coach Miguel Angel Portugal believes his team are capable of making Barcelona during their Primera Division clash at El Sardinero on Sunday evening.

The champions commence the defence of their title with a tough trip to face the Verdiblancos, and Portugal reckons that by stifling key players such as Xavi and Andres Iniesta, his team can make the match an unpleasant experience for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In an online interview with Marca.com readers, he suggested, “It is important not to allow Barcelona to develop their possession game. Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta will feel uncomfortable in our stadium and we will see what we can do.

Portugal also passed comment on former protégé Sergio Canales, who has since moved on to Real Madrid, and believes that in order for the Spanish under-19 international to continue to develop as a player, he must play regularly at los Blancos.

He added, “What [Sergio] Canales needs most is to play games, because he has enough talent to play in any elite team. [Jose] Mourinho has used him a lot in pre-season, and he is responding.

“The only advice I would give is that his development remains as natural as it has always been.”
