Deportivo La Coruna Part Company With Sergio Gonzalez

But there could be a legal battle ahead...
Sergio Gonzalez has left Deportivo la Coruna after his contract expired with the Spanish Primera Division club. The 33-year-old was signed from Espanyol in 2001 and played for nine years with the Galician side.

Sergio was a regular for the first team and was part of the Super Depor side that took Spanish and European football by storm, competing for the Liga title with Real Madrid and Barcelona and also progressing in the knockout stages in the Champions League.

However, after nine years the player and the club have decided to part ways but on a sour note. Spanish sports daily Marca reports that the former Spanish international owes Depor a gross €4 million as part of image rights and there are suggestions that the club could sue him. But Avelino Gonzalez, father and representative of the player, hopes to reach a mutual settlement with Depor.
