In one of his last official acts as president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta has secured the continuity of Barca youth product and midfielder orchestrator Xavi Hernandez at the Camp Nou.
As reported by AS, Xavi will have his contract extended with the club until 2016 - a two-year extension on his current deal. Xavi and Laporta have today signed the new terms of the contract which will likely see the midfielder retire at the Catalan club. His current wage and €80 million buyout clause will remain the same in the contract.
Xavi will be 36 years old at the end of his renewed contract and will have played 25 of those years as a Barca player, having arrived at the club at the age of 11.
In the past season, Xavi played in 53 of 59 official matches with Barcelona (89.8%). In his 12 seasons at Camp Nou he has played 527 matches (the second best in club history) and has scored 54 goals.
