Valencia coach Unai Emery is reportedly determined to land Mallorca striker Aritz Aduriz as a replacement for Nikola Zigic who joined Birmingham City last month.
The Basque-born striker has been linked with los Che all summer but appeared to price himself out of a move to the Mestalla last month with excessive wage demands but it now appears that a deal may be imminent.
According to Super Deporte, age was the biggest factor playing against a move for Aduriz, who is 29, but with Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro intimating that he intends to stay in France, los Che are understood to be refocusing their attention on the Barralets forward.
That falls into line with Emery's preference with the trainer preferring to add an experienced Primera Liga player to his ranks rather than trying to integrate a foreign player into the team.
Aduriz, who scored 13 league goals for the Balearic outfit last season, is believed to be a firm favourite with Emery but his transfer may be more prolonged. Valencia are likely to face stiff competition from Getafe to land the striker after the departure of Roberto Soldado to Valencia and at present Aduriz will have to significantly lower his salary expectations to fit the financial limitations of los Che.
