Following days of intense speculation linking him with the vacant coaching role at Real Betis, Victor Fernandez has officially been appointed the new coach of the Verdiblancos.
Fernandez was official unveiled at Ruiz de Lopera stadium today and the official Real Betis website confirmed the appointment via a statement earlier in the day.
The 49-year-old former Real Zaragoza and FC Porto tactician has replaced Antonio Tapia, who left the club last week, and the new man is returning for his second stint with the club, having previously coached the Verdiblancos in 2002.
“In life there are offers that can't be ignored and a call from a club that treated me as well as Real Betis, I could not refuse and had to accept,” he said.
Betis currently occupy seventh place in the Spanish Segunda Division table but Fernandez is confident he will lead the side to promotion.
“We’re going to climb [the table] and play the best football and finish among those three [promotion places].”
