Atletico Madrid have officially signed a partnership agreement with Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
In a statement on los Rojiblancos' official website, the partnership was signed today in the Vicente Calderon with the aim of "aligning business strategies, strengthening the image of both clubs worldwide and benefiting from the co-operation in order to obtain economic and financial resources."
The presidents of both clubs, Enrique Cerezo and Jun Zhou, were present at the event alongside Lixiao Zhuang, the Secretary of Cultural Affairs in the Chinese embassy in Madrid.
The agreement allows for the exchange of players between the clubs, Shanghai's coaches to travel to Madrid for coaching experience and a first-option for los Colchoneros on the Chinese club's players.
"The sporting side prevails over the financial side in this agreement," Cerezo explained, while Lixiao Zhuang added that "we are talking about two powerful countries on a sporting level ... This alliance will advance the sport in China."
