Ahead of his Camp Nou debut against Atletico Madrid, new Barcelona centre-half Dmytro Chygrynskiy has told El Mundo Deportivo of his admiration for veteran defender Carles Puyol.
"For me Puyol is a symbol of Barcelona. For a long time whenever I thought of Barca I saw him and whenever I thought of Puyol, I saw Barcelona. He has incredible strength," said the 22-year-old Ukrainian, who previously played at Camp Nou against Barcelona.
Chygrynskiy signed for Barcelona from Shakhtar Donetsk last month in a €25 million deal as a long-term replacement for Puyol after impressing coach Pep Guardiola during games against the Blaugrana.
The defender says he still has one of Puyol's Barcelona shirts at his home after swapping jersey's with the Barca captain following a Champions League encounter between Shakhtar and Barcelona.
"I still have it in my collection, and I guess he still has mine," he said.
