Maxwell believes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will lift Barcelona's level even higher and admitted that he has been surprised by how great he has found things at his new club.
The Brazilian full-back held his first press conference since the team returned from their pre-season trips to England and the United States and looked ahead to the first game of the season.
While Ibrahimovic will not be able to play against Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup first leg on Sunday, he will still become a great player for Barca, Maxwell believes.
"He is doing what he does best and little-by-little he will rediscover his best form," Maxwell told reporters.
"He is very strong and with Ibrahimovic's quality he will improve the team and raise the level of play. There will be a lot of pressure on him, but he has the quality to do great things."
Barca hope to start their silverware collection quickly and have the chance to impress when they play their first official encounter in San Mames on Sunday.
"We are having a very positive pre-season, very good indeed," Maxwell continued. "With the spirit within the squad and the experience of the players we can make a good start in the Super Cup.”
Maxwell had seen Barcelona play on television, but nothing had prepared him for what he would experience first-hand when joining the club.
"I was surprised by the organisation of the club and the quality of the training," he continued. "What is also impressive is the speed with which the team plays."
Having joined from Inter in Italy's Serie A, Maxwell was inevitably asked to compare the two leagues. "They are different leagues with different demands," he said. "Here the game is more about having possession of the ball, the speed of play and the technique.
"My main goal here is to maintain the balance on the pitch. For me the defensive side of things is very important and the offensive part is more intuitive and about creativity."
