Barcelona Remain In Hunt For Porto Defender Bruno Alves - Report

Reports from the Portuguese press suggest that Barcelona have still not given up hope of securing Porto central defender Bruno Alves, and could be set to make a substantial bid for the stopper.

Publication A Bola believes that the European Champions had made a tentative approach for the 27-year old earlier in the summer, but had baulked at the Liga Sagres champions’ €30 million valuation.

However, Pep Guardiola may still be interested in the international, who joined Porto as a 17-year-old back in 1999, as he looks to bolster his squad for another gruelling campaign.

Yet the daily newspaper also suggests that Ukrainian Dmytro Chyhyrnskiy remains the Blaugrana’s number one target. President Joan Laporta travelled to meet with representatives of the player’s club, Shakhtar Donetsk, in order to discuss a possible transfer, and coach Mircea Lucescu has previously admitted that he is consigned to losing the 22-year old.

Upon their return from the successful US tour, Guardiola and Barca's sporting director Txiki Bergiristain will assess the options, and if the Chyhyrnskiy deal becomes problematic, then the Spanish giants may choose to re-ignite their interest in Alves.

Barcelona have already added a defender to their squad this summer, having secured the purchase of Maxwell from Serie A side Inter.
