Barcelona & Inter Legend Luis Suarez: Maxwell Better Than Eric Abidal

The legendary Spanish ex-midfielder is certain that the Blaugrana have made the right choice in signing Maxwell…

Spain’s solitary Ballon d’Or winner, Luis Suarez, has endorsed Barcelona’s move to sign Maxwell from Inter.

The 74-year-old, who played for both clubs before coaching the Nerazzurri twice in the 1990s, believes that the Brazilian left-back, who is scheduled to have his Barca medical later today, will have no problems settling in at the Camp Nou.

“Maxwell is a good player with good technique,” Suarez told Ona FM.

“He is someone who certainly focuses more on attack than defence but his game will suit Barca’s style, which relies a lot on touch and technical ability.”

Suarez then pointed out the new recruit’s main characteristics that will make up for the shortcomings of the current first choice at Barca, Eric Abidal.

“Abidal is stronger physically, but Maxwell is better when it comes to skill and attacking qualities,” he said, before going on to add that the club hadmade a good investment parting with just €4.5 million for left-back.

Indeed, the 27-year-old costs less than half of what Deportivo La Coruna had demanded for Filipe Luis, who had been the Blaugrana’s first choice.
