Barcelona Offer Samuel Eto’o Two-Year Contract Extension - Report

The player’s agent has announced that the Cameroonian striker’s future will be revealed at a press conference on Tuesday morning…

Barcelona have made a swift response to a recent turn of events regarding their star striker, Samuel Eto’o.

Reports had emerged from England early yesterday morning indicating that Manchester City were preparing an official €30 million offer for the Cameroonian.

Immediately after rumours surfaced that the deal had been completed, however, the player’s agent, Josep Maria Mesalles, came out and revealed that the 28-year-old was eager to see out the remainder of his one-year contract at the Camp Nou.

Now, the Blaugrana board have reacted and, according to Cadena SER programme ‘El Larguero’, are set to offer the hot-shot a two-year contract extension but without any amendments to his pay package.

Mesalles, however, is reportedly unhappy with the way Barca have made their proposal and he wants the club to make a formal offer on Tuesday (today). The agent has also announced that he will hold a press conference of his own at 11:00 CET the same day to reveal Eto’o’s final decision about his future.

At this point, it is believed that Barca are trying to force Eto’o out in order to cash in on him to bring in reinforcements, while the player, who is unhappy at the way he is being treated, wants to see out his contract so that he can disrupt the club’s transfer plans by leaving on a free next summer.
