Atletico Madrid Announce They Will Not Entertain Offers For Aguero Or Forlan

Ever since the Primera Division season ended last month, Atletico Madrid have been bombarded with countless offers for their two marksmen, Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan.

Reports that the club are on a restricted budget for the next campaign have only served to intensify speculation that they need to sell off their prized assets in order to reel in the necessary funds to strengthen their squad.

This has put some of Europe’s heavyweights - such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter and Manchester City - on high alert, and there have been non-stop rumours linking the dynamic duo with a departure from the Vicente Calderon.

Atleti president Enrique Cerezo has already come out numerous times to declare that his two superstars are not for sale, and now it appears that he has grown weary of all the transfer talk and is ready to put an end to all doubts about the pair’s future.

According to AS, the club’s Executive Committee met yesterday and reached a unanimous decision not to listen to any offers for Forlan or Aguero. It was also agreed that the two strikers are not for sale and their buy-out clauses are non-negotiable.

As such, any clubs who still wish to attempt to sign them will have to pay out their contracts outright: €60 million for Aguero and €36 million for Forlan. Even then, the potential suitors still have to convince the players themselves to ditch Atletico.

According to reports, the two strikers had already assured team coach Abel Resino prior to their summer holidays that they intended to remain with the Rojiblancos next season.

It is also believed that Forlan’s agent is about to begin talks with the club to negotiate the Uruguayan’s contract, which will include a pay rise in exchange for an increment in his buy-out clause.
