Barcelona Set To Extend Puyol’s Stay & Improve Iniesta’s Contract

The Blaugrana’s two key figures are about to be richly rewarded following a spectacular season.

Barcelona have reportedly begun negotiations to reward two of their best players this season, Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta, with a new and improved contract.

According to AS, a Barca official has already told Iniesta’s agent, Ramon Sostres, that his client, who signed an extension just two years ago to raise his buy-out clause to €150 million, is expected to be granted a pay increase after playing an extremely pivotal role in helping the Blaugrana clinch the treble.

Meanwhile, a club spokesman also confirmed to EFE that negotiations are “well underway” to extend Puyol’s contract, which currently ends in June 2010, for another two seasons.

However, there’s still no update on contract developments for three other players: Rafa Marquez, Samuel Eto’o and Victor Valdes.

There are no signs of any negotiations whatsoever for the Mexican defender while for Eto’o, his representatives are scheduled to meet with the Catalan club some time in the next few days.

Finally for Valdes, a principle agreement to extend his deal until 2014 had been reached, but both parties have yet to work out the financial details.
